Blink the Bulb is a free-to-play 16-bit holiday themed indie action-adventure platform game.

Had Blink the Bulb been released in the early 90s, I think this game would have had a place at the top of the 16-bit platformer genre.

The Story:
"Everything was once peaceful in the Jubilee Realm - a distant universe formed from individuals' fond memories of the holidays. Here, humanity's composite recollections were weaved into brilliant landscapes and simple, kindly beings. However, ages have passed and the thoughts that shaped the realm have been tainted by a dark force - people's spiteful memories of their special occasions. The Holidaemon, six ruthless beings born from this negative energy, have begun taking over the Jubilee Realm and threaten to infect all its inhabitants with their influence.

Thankfully, all is not lost. Blink the Bulb, a lone resident of Winter Land, has set off to defeat the Holidaemon before they conquer the entire world. Looking skyward, he vows to vanquish their evil and restore the inhabitants of the Jubilee Realm to their former selves."

Review:
Many of us who grew up in the 90s have a soft spot in our hearts for the platform genre. Games like Super Mario Bros, Mega Man, and Sonic nostalgically live on in our memories no matter how old we get.

Retro gaming is far from dead. If your a classic game hunter then you know how very much alive old-school games are by the going price tags on the more popular titles.

Not only have the classics not been forgotten, but they have inspired a vast collection of recently released retro like video games. Many indie game developers are trying to recapture the essence that made the treasured classics of old so special.

If you grew up in the 8-bit and 16-bit generation of gaming, then you probably remember how big the platform genre was. Usually the most popular games released were considered platformers.

Blink the Bulb displays all of the characteristics that would have made a platformer epic back in the days of 16-bit video games. Had it been released during the early days of the Sega Genesis, it may have been a top seller that spawned an entire series.

Generally when a game is free to play on Steam I have pretty low expectations. Usually there is a reason the developers are not trying to at least not make a couple dollars off of their hard work.

You can't always judge a game by its cover! Nor can you always trust Steams user reviews. I've tried many games with bad reviews, and ended up loving them. On the other hand I've tried many that got very positive reviews, to end up being very disappointed.

After trying out Blink the Bulb I'm really surprised it ended up in Steams free to play category. Its fun to play, has great mechanics, catchy retro sounding music, boss fights, and pretty much everything you want in a retro inspired platformer.

If your a fan of retro-like platform games then I highly recommend you check out Blink the Bulb. I'm really impressed with the game-play. White Sparkle Games did an amazing job in my opinion. Since its free they get an Overwhelmingly Positive review out of me.
