From what I've seen so far, Blood II is an average shooter which suffers from occasionally confusing level design and unnecessary ammo scarcity. Also, the enemies have annoyingly fast reflexes, and can often get in more than a few hits before the player has even managed to align the crosshair properly (or are my motor skills rapidly deteriorating with age?). And while Monolith's LithTech engine might have been a pretty big deal back in '98, the early polygonal 3D engine it hasn't aged very well.
That said, the basic shooter mechanics aren't awful or anything, and the game is quite capable of providing some old school fun. Many of the weapons feel really good to use and the ability to dual-wield several of them is a very nice feature indeed. That double-barrelled shotgun duo is still as viscerally satisfying as it was in the original Blood...
