Planescape: Torment was released on GOG earlier today. The game is such a bold experiment in story-oriented design that, at least in terms of its highly original RPG/adventure genre amalgam, PS:T makes even the genre-redefining Baldur's Gate seem like yet another RPG by comparison. While Torment may not be perfect in terms of its core gameplay mechanics, it's probably still the most historically important (though certainly not the most influential) of the Bioware/Black Isle classics. It's telling that in the eleven years which have passed since the game's original release no mainstream title has even come close to matching PS:T's sheer narrative ambition.
