Icewind Dale is pretty close to being the perfect dungeon crawler, and it boasts an unabashedly old school approach to RPG game design that even the mighty Baldur's Gate can't quite compete with. Rather than waste time on lengthy dialogue scenes and convoluted journeys across all continents, Icewind Dale gets right down to business with a completely customizable six-member party and many hours of focused, combat-oriented dungeon crawling for the hardcore D&D enthusiast. And despite not being a story-oriented game at all, Icewind Dale has an atmosphere of its own achieved through a meticulous and consistent representation of the icy, notoriously inhospitable campaign settings made famous by R.A. Salvatore's novels.
