Board Game Discussion - Taking One for the Team
Falling on the sword/grenade/etc. We've all heard the tropes about making sacrifices for the greater good and helping others, but can/does this extend to the board gaming realm? How so? I argue that yes, you can totally take one for the team in board games! Sometimes, it's even good!
When we think of taking one for the team or sacrificing for others, we typically think about combat and noble folks who end up as martyrs for a cause. For games, we'll often see something that can be done in cooperative games where one person can hold off baddies for the others to fall back, or take care of a specific area largely solo, and all sorts of things along those lines. That said, competitive games can have sacrifices, as well.... but doesn't that just make for a kingmaker??? OHHHH DANG.
Either way, what do you all think about the idea of taking a hit or straight up sacrificing yourself in a board game to save the team, and why? Are there particular games where you see it happening? Which do you enjoy? Let me know in the comments!
