Bomberman Jetters was released for the Game Boy Advance, Playstation 2 and GameCube originally in 2002, though the only game released stateside was the GameCube version, which was only released in the U.S. (in 2004) oddly enough-- it was likely due to the success of the previous GC Bomberman game, "Bomberman Generations". It is based on the popular anime and manga of the same name.

In the game, you play as Bomberman (mainly known as White Bomber in the game, who is Mighty's younger brother) or MAX as you basically foil the Hige-Hige Bandits, Mujoe, Bagura, and Dr. Mechadoc's plans of destroying Planet Bomber. As the bad guys are sick of being stopped, they have gone to extreme measures by using an artificial comet, the Dark Star, to crash into Planet Bomber in under 24 hours, killing everyone on it. You are out to stop various generators powering the Dark Star and thwart evil once again.

While based on the Jetters, a few major technical changes were made to the game, mainly to make it more in-line with Bomberman Generation than anything with Bomberman Jetters, which has caused the game to get panned somewhat. The characters act differently (White Bomber is much more compotent in contrast to his silly and clumsy nature in the anime/manga), Shout (the girl) isn't nearly as mean and comes off as level-headed and nice, MAX is a hero instead of a villain (as he was playable in BG) and his main little segment for joining the fight is that the Hige-Hige Bandits have gone too far, there's a "Dark Force Bomber", and the voice acting was heavily panned (but what do they expect; White Bomber isn't much older than ten and look at the Japanese PS2 game... he sounds even MORE like a girl).

People felt MAX's contribution to the gameplay was minimal and caused a rift in the game's continuity with other Jetters media, but as much of the Jetters franchise is Japan-only and a lot of people (not semi-knowledgable in Japanese) don't really know what's going on in it anyway, it's hard to be too critical. I think it's a decent game and will appeal to those who have played BG (which was kinda better) or those who don't mind differences between the game and anime/manga (there are usually differences between animes and mangas anyway, so it's not too suprising if there are differences in the games).

Everything about this Bomberman game is pretty standard, except the visuals are cel-shaded (the PS2 game is not) and White Bomber can use charaboms while MAX can destroy walls and use his Hyper-Plasma Bomb, good for destroying a crowd of weaker enemies. This video has been revised in higher quality and goes to the end of the first level. Enjoy.
