There are a bunch of great Bonanza Bros. playthroughs on Youtube, but a lot of the ones from the arcade version are missing the sound effects due to older versions of MAME! So I decided to record one myself this morning. Unfortunately, I'm not very good at Bonanza Bros, and I die a lot, but I try to show off as much of the game as I can.

So, like, this game is absolutely my new shit. I love these guys. The amount of fanwork I have turned out for this game is, frankly, very embarrassing.

THINGS TO NOTE:

-Robo is the tall, red one. Mobo is the short, blue one. It's not known which one is older, or if they're twins.(My headcanon is that Robo is the little brother though)

-This game's art style goes really hard and a lot of the backdrops are surprisingly detailed. A lot of the businesses in Badville are space-themed, which makes me, madamluna, extremely happy. (Short list: Comet Cigar/Soda/Club, Moon Hotel, Orion Circus, Satellite, Hyperbola Diamond, and the luxury liner is called the Peppermint Star!)

-At one point in the antiques store there is a BEAUTIFUL stained glass window that I make sure to keep onscreen for a moment. A lot of the things in this game are really pretty for no necessary reason, which is nice.

-I have heard from one of my friends that this game's artwork was heavily inspired by Hiro Yamagata's silkscreen prints and, after seeing his art, I'm convinced it's true. Look up his work--he uses a lot of the same cityscapes and gradients that show up in BBros, and the zeppelin in the game is a direct reference to his art.

-In the arcade version, the characters shout something that sounds like either EAT THAT or EGADS when they get KOed. In the megadrive/genesis version they pretty clearly holler "SHIT."

-If you've played Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing, this game is what those assholes are from! I love them so much. In Racing, Robo & Mobo also chug imaginary beer cans, which is probably why they didn't show up in the sequel (if they were trying to keep the rating down). I love these sleazy puppets.

-It's not actually specified whether the guys in this game are robots or humans or what. In All-Stars Racing, Robo & Mobo's species is listed as "human," which is hilarious given that they have C-clamps for hands. The gag in the Laboratory level, where Robo puts a robot's head over his own head, is kind of a neat reference to this ambiguity.
