Boost to Atmanirbhar Bharat in the Domestic Toy Manufacturing Sector. Toy imports down by 70%, Exports rise by 61% in last 3 years say the Govt. For better quality and to maintain international standards, Govt have already released the Quality Control Order (QCO ) for toys that came into effect from 1st Jan 2021. Now every toy shall conform to the requirements of relevant Indian Standard and bear the Standard Mark under a license from BIS. Even for the exports, QCO has to be obtained. Basic Customs Duty (BCD) on Toys-HS Code-9503 has been increased from 20% to 60% in February 2020.BIS has granted 843 licenses to domestic manufacturers for the safety of toys, out of these, 645 licenses have been granted for non-electric toys and 198 licenses granted for electric toys.
In addition, govt has also granted 6 licenses to international toy manufacturers.
Govt working on developing more Toy Clusters and also encouraging StartUps to come in the Toy Manufacturing Industry
