In order for me to start ranting, I should mention that I will be talking about spoilers that happen within this video so, if you haven’t seen/played this part of the game, the you should be warned that I will mention some spoilers. So, after helping out the three scientists out by collecting the lost items for them, we then head on back to Jack’s office because something didn’t work out quite as well as we would’ve liked. It seems as though the scientist couldn’t get the job done and the pathway is still closed off and that angered Jack a little, to say the least (I mean, it also made me a little angry considering they made me do a task that meant literally nothing and, considering the what happens to the Scientists, I’m not even why they introduced them). He decides that the best way to deal with this potential traitor, he is going to jettison out all the scientist into space which, in case you didn’t know, will kill them. Now, I understand that the point of this is to show that Jack is evil/turning into an evil person who likes to murder people but that isn’t all there is to his character; He wasn’t just someone who enjoyed to murder people but he thought he was a hero doing so. On top of that, they just murdered another interesting character they only introduced a while ago (that being Gladstone) which makes you really wonder, are they just introducing more characters to kill them off to show Jack’s descent? Should I even really care about any new character they will introduce if I know they are going to die by the end of the game or, in some cases, in a couple of hours since they are introduced? Like I said, I do understand that Jack must kill some people (I thought the Felicity incident was interesting a nice little twist although they didn’t explore it enough to make it very impactful) but I don’t just want to Jack murder people for no reason, there should be some moral ambiguity and tension of killing them. When we fought with Felicity and forced her to wipe her memories (essentially forcing her to die), there was a reason (Jack needing the Robot army) and the player feels sorry for doing so but, as Jack mentions, they don’t have enough time for any other solution. Just killing someone under the assumption they might be evil is a little weird, even for a Hero to do; It’s not like Jack tried out all the other reason to why the door might be stuck before just ruthlessly murdering people on a hunch.
