The last couple of weekends have been spent playing Braid, the indie darling of 2008 and one of the things that put Jon Blow on the map. I forget what put me onto that subject, but well, y'all know what it's like when something decides it's the thing to do for the time being. Last weekend was poring over the game and seeing just how pretentious the game really was (turns out: a little bit) along with seeing if the whole "atomic bomb" thing was overblown (turns out: also a little bit, but it IS there!)
This weekend, specifically, was for learning the stages and getting the last achievement, for speed-running the main game. Which, as it turns out, requires getting all the puzzle pieces to reach the final level, so it's a bit more robust than I'd initially expected! I didn't look up much in the way of speed-run strats, so this is what's colloquially known as "wingin' it" - there's room for improvement, but I appreciate that there's plenty of room for screw-ups without losing that 45-minute limit. It also gives plenty of room for Tim to get smacked around a bit whilst I'm trying to solve those rooms.
Also, as a bonus, if you pause the video at the right itme, you can check out all the books that some guy left lying around, to really see what might have gone through Tim's head during the proceedings of this game. Though if you ask me, the last bit of the game is really the best part of the story, just for what it gets across with minimal dialogue or written word.
