Bram Stoker's Dracula Game Sample - Game Gear
Based off of the 1992 film that featured Gary Oldman, Winona Ryder, Anthony Hopkins, and Keanu Reeves -- to name a few, Bram Stoker's Dracula for Game Gear is different from the Genesis, SNES, and Sega CD game, but is basically the same as the NES, Game Boy, and Sega Master System game but with some minor differences between options, gameplay, and presentation (such as the GG game having a more zoomed-in view). The 8-Bit versions are surprisingly better and more playable than the more advanced games, lol.
The 8-Bit versions differ quite a bit from the more sophisticated versions on other platforms. For starters, there are many suspicious "?" blocks with lots of goodies, more hidden passageways, more wisely designed levels broken up into day and night (where day segments give you a few seconds before night falls to run around without worrying about enemies), the ability to meet Abraham Van Helsing during the day who will increase your power at night during boss battles, and three difficulty settings. The nice thing about the difficulty settings is that besides simply making the game a little harder, you can only get the true ending and play all the levels on the highest difficulty.
Each of the 8-Bit games feature pretty smooth character animations and detailed environments, though the music and sounds' mileage will vary (I think they're good but a little annoying as they play many of the same themes repeatedly, and that the NES/GB games look and sound more appropriate with deeper sounds and darker colors). Gameplay-wise, there is nothing of significance wrong with the game -- you can even look below most of the time for traps and the game has a steady, progressive difficulty. This is a video of the game in action. Enjoy.
