First we have to go through Chaugmar before we can awaken the crystal.
When he has his barrier up its pointless to attack him. Just default and stock up on brave points. After he transforms, the next turn he'll perform energy burst which will probably kill everything unless you default. He can also hit pretty hard with his regular attacks and can steal your HP and BP.
