Chapter 5 begins with the fight against the game's antagonist, Kaiser. The equipment carries over from our last save way back in chapter 4. Kaiser's attacks deal severe damage already, and yet he will go on and use Noble Eagle to make attacks on both the sides twice as potent. A decision that will serve to bolster my party rather than Kaiser himself - as you know by now, all attacks dealing damage in this challenge either kill or do nothing, so we couldn't care less if Kaiser is doing 1x or 2x damage. However, his receiving twice as much damage means the battle will be ending very soon for him.
There's only one little problem - me starting at full HP, which prevents me from casting spells without a cost. A simple manipulation allows me to exploit Blessing Mist to cause three units to auto-revive in the correct HP range with a self-cast. Kaiser is toast afterwards, with Soul Mirror taking care of his own attacks to attack my folks.
Cu Chulainn & Bella is the actual difficult battle here. We're forced to start the fight at full health again, which this time around is not just an inconvenience - with it being complicated to get the party into critical health, our victory is compromised in more ways than one.
I execute a similar strategy as in the previous battle, trying to get as many units into critical as possible. The plan involves starting the fight with Tiz with the shields unequipped, which is supposed to result in him taking sufficient damage to either die or enter critical HP. He emerges with a little more HP than necessary, which will torture me for the rest of the fight by forcing me to use Ethers to continue to function.
These two aren't as straightforward as Kaiser, with Cuch liking full-party physicals (against which multiple Soul Mirrors work wonders) and Bella learning more advanced Spellcraft to work along her basic spells. She does know Rain this time, assaulting the party with randomly targeted 4 spells. As long as Blessing Mist is up and Tiz has used Purrfect Stance to be at 200% def/mdef (equipped appropriately to take no damage from either phys or mag damage), things should work out fine.
What really endangers us however is Bella's own Mist access. Since Yew is always slower than her, his Blessing Mist will override Bella's offensive Mist on the party, so as long as Yew gets to act on the same turn Bella's AI decides to Mist me, I'll be all right - Soul Mirror on Yew (prioritised even above Soul Mirroring Tiz) will keep him alive and ensure the threat has spared me again.
But there's a good chance Yew doesn't get a turn when Bella sets up her own Mist, which will reset my Blessing Mist and cause everybody but Tiz to fall. Now, as bad as this may be, Tiz is still taking no damage from anybody, so if Bella is sufficiently weakened (and she should be by now) we can always outstall her by bouncing off reflected physicals (mostly Cu's) onto her until her eventual demise.
This is exactly what happens on this attempt. Once Bella is finally down and her Mist expires, it is safe to revive Yew and set up one final Blessing Mist, Cu now falling prey to my Meteor Rain spam.
Chapter 5 can now be enjoyed without limitation, for example granting me access to the jobs I'd missed (not many of them are particularly useful) and also giving me a much more efficient means of grinding JP.
