Last time ended on a real bad note, huh? The Kaiser ventured into the Holy Pillar and took Agnès with him, Anne used the light to make the moon vanish entirely, and time was brought to a standstill. And we never got to fight the Kaiser even once!

...Or did we? The game has granted us New Game+, and as you may recall, the game starts with a cold open with Braev, Agnès, Alternis, and Yew standing together in battle against... the Kaiser! This time, however, when it's Yew's turn to act, you (the player) actually has control. The only command he's allowed to use is Attack, and using it will just send you down the exact same path as a New Game. But there's one other option!

The courage to try again: Bravely Second. With the power of SP, Magnolia, Tiz, and Edea join Yew, complete with all their abilities. This time, we get to fight the Kaiser for real! He's not so bad, honestly. The only gimmick here is his ability, Noble Eagle. It raises physical and magical attack to the absolute highest level, 200%, for all combatants. It makes him a threat, but it means we can punch through his HP quickly.

Upon his defeat, his mask breaks, revealing his true identity: Yew's long-lost brother, Denys. That just leaves more questions than answers as he's hauled off in chains. Everyone decides that it's critically important for the Duchy and the Orthodoxy to finalize the treaty, and Agnès gives a speech about being stuck in a cycle of despair until now and thanking the party. Many important figures gather together to discuss what to do next. They're all given shards of Agnès's pendant to keep in touch.

After the meeting, though, it turns out that Nikolai and Janne have busted the Kaiser out. The gang tries to stop them, but our old friends Bella and Cú Chulainn are back and ready to lay down their lives. This time, they give their backstories: the Orthodoxy blamed Bella's family for the Great Plague and razed her entire village as a result. Bella tried to bring her sister Donna back, but all she could do was create monsters. The closest she ever got was resurrecting Cú Chulainn's spirit in the form of a centaur statue (so she didn't actually fuse him with his horse). He's eternally loyal to her for giving him new life and allowing him to fight again. When defeated, the party has no intention of killing them. Instead, Yew wants Agnès to take custody of them to show them what she's really trying to do as the head of the Orthodoxy.

With that done, the world is open to us, and oh look, there are several sidequest markers! This is our chance to see the other way for all those dilemmas to play out, starting with The Jackal and DeRosa. This time, I've decided that the people of the desert need the water more than a risky new theoretical energy source, and that means I get access to the Red Mage asterisk.

You probably already know that the Red Mage's signature ability is being okay with black and white magic as well as a sword, but really, the strength of the Red Mage is BP. Gain BP for dodging attacks, for suffering a status effect, for taking damage, for getting into low health... There are some handy support abilities!

Back to the task at hand: getting the compass of space and time before the Kaiser. By now, he and his companions have realized that they all have memories of what happened, and that means Yew and friends do too. Geist offers to go after it this time.

Yew and the gang head to the Harena Sea Caves, where everything is just as it was before. After traversing the caves again, it looks like we're first! Edea takes the compass, but gasp, she's possessed by Revenant! Oh no! She's giving the compass to Geist! Luckily, Braev is here to provide backup and block their escape, so we'll get to fight them.

During the fight, Geist reveals his own motivation. He was an exorcist in the Orthodoxy, and he left his sick son to exorcise a girl. However, she was sick, not possessed, and thus was not properly treated. For many reasons, she was allowed to travel, and thus her illness spread as the Great Plague. As if that wasn't bad enough, when Geist finally returned home, Revenant was dead and gone, save for a piece of his soul. In desperation, Geist fused Revenant's soul to armor, but nothing could stop his grief.

After the battle, Braev says that Geist's report, delayed though it was, led to the discovery of a cure for the Plague. While Geist blames himself for its spread, Braev says it would've run rampant for many years more without his report, and thus credits him with saving countless lives.

Next, Kamiizumi wants us to go to Florem, but I'm thinking we're gonna go around and do all these sidequests first.
