In this video, we have news of a new controller coming from Retro Fighters designed specifically for Smash Brothers Ultimate on the Nintendo Switch & Switch Lite.

One of my favorite accessory manufacturers out there has to be Retro Fighters. I don't know that I've tried one of their controllers that I didn't absolutely fall in love with. They have amazing quality, the controller's just feel right in the hands, and most importantly, they just work! I just got an email through that they have a new controller launching on Kickstarter. The result of their latest efforts is what you see here, the Duelist for the Nintendo Switch & Switch Lite.

They have designed the Duelist to be the ideal controller for you to play competitively in Super Smash Brothers Ultimate on the Switch & Switch Lite. It has an oversized A button, strategically placed face buttons, and a new S button. What is an S button? Well, the S button allows you to pull off a Smash attack or Smash hop at the press of a single button. For newbies like me who suck at Smash Brothers, this is going to be an amazing feature.

The analog stick and d-pad look very similar to what you would find on the Brawler 64. In fact, much of the design looks to be inspired by the Brawler 64, which I absolutely love. The Brawler 64 is my favorite way to play the Nintendo 64, and quite honestly it's just a fantastic all-around controller. As such, I'm thrilled to see those ergonomics implemented on yet another controller.

The Duelist features the latest version of Bluetooth wireless technology, meaning that it will pair directly to the Nintendo Switch & Switch Lite and does not require an external dongle. Could this also mean that you could pair it to a raspberry pi, Retropie, Android, Mac, or PC? It's a possibility!

Being wireless, it includes a 180 milliamp lithium ion battery. I am thrilled to see Retro Fighters adopt USB C for the power input to charge the controller. Except for an older tablet, just about all of my devices now use USB C, so I'm glad to see that on this controller and know I can charge it on cables I already own.

The Duelist just hit Kickstarter and you can back the project for as little as $28 plus shipping and handling. There are a variety of different tiers that you can back depending on how many Duelist controllers you would like. There are certain reward thresholds with this project so that you can possibly get a limited edition keychain, and possibly vote on different colors in the future.

We have back to this project and are looking forward to our unboxing and review once these start to ship in September of 2020. Fingers crossed that the health pandemic does not cause any shipping or production delays. Once we have received ours we will make sure to post our videos and feedback regarding the Duelist itself.
