For Episode 5 of the Quern blind playthrough we mainly work in the Alchemy Lab and Garden. The Professor seems intent on leading us through various trials that teach the fundamentals of life in Quern, and part of that is brewing up ingredients and concoctions in his Alchemy Lab. So come let’s play Quern!

Welcome to my Quern blind playthrough! I have been following this game's development with interest and have been waiting (impatiently) for it to come out on Steam. That finally happened. After Obduction I’ve been craving a solid puzzle-based game and from my Quern first impressions it looks like the Quern gameplay will deliver exactly what I want; the game is inspired by Myst (and Riven and Obduction). This will be a Quern full, blind playthrough and quern undying thoughts guide, so I hope you all come on a new adventure with me and let's play Quern.

Episode 1 of my Quern blind playthrough starts with us coming to on a mysterious island (Quern) to find letters that introduce the Quern - Undying Thoughts gameplay mechanics. Episode 2 of Quern Full Playthrough has us scouring the island for more clues as to what is really happening and what some of the devices in the Crystal Lab do. For Episode 3 of Let’s Play Quern, we find a second crystal rod, uncover more hidden codes, and open the North Shore portion of the map. In Episode 4 of the quern undying thoughts full walkthrough, we explore the North Shore, solve the Crystal Skull puzzle, the sound puzzle, and ride on a boat. Episode 5 of Let’s Play Quern has us brewing potions in the Alchemy Lab and collecting plants in the Garden. We also find the fire crystals! Even after just one episode of the Let’s Play Quern blind series I am hooked on the game’s story, world, and atmosphere. I cannot wait to experience more of the quern undying thoughts gameplay and look forward to the rest of the Quern full playthrough. So come and let’s play Quern blind!

The Quern game is a first-person adventure game with puzzles to solve and mysteries to uncover. Quern is set on a mysterious (and deserted, apparently) island called Quern. We are brought to the island for an unknown purpose and set about exploring and learning everything we can. The quern undying thoughts gameplay is based on Myst and other explore-em-up puzzle and adventure games. Since I loved the Obduction playthrough, I'm very excited about what this game can offer, and look forward to giving you my Quern first impressions as well as maybe a short Quern review.

WHAT IS QUERN?

Quern is a first person puzzle adventure with captivating story and beautiful graphics. The game is currently in early development by Folkestone (UK) based Zadbox Entertainment, established by four Hungarians in their early twenties.

One of the specialities of Quern is that the tasks to be solved are not managed as separate, individual and sequential units, but as a complex entity, amongst which the players may wander and experiment freely.

WHAT IS DIFFERENT?

Quern is an open world, meaning that the players can freely explore and wander around the island. Simply putting an object in a slot and walking away doesn’t work in this game. Of course, there are keys opening gates, but in Quern most of the puzzle mechanics are reusable in some other way. As the story is progressing, the players face more and more complicated challenges that might lead them back to an earlier puzzle, forcing them to reimagine it with the extra items or knowledge which was gathered. This way the players need to think about the game as a whole, not just as a series of individual puzzles.

GAME DESIGN

Being great fans of the Myst series, the visual style of these fantastic games had the strongest influence on them. The aim was to create a surreal mood to make players curious as to what the rules of this world are, and urge them into diving deeper and deeper into its secrets.

To further the surrealism, Quern was designed to be a world full of contrasts, yet still maintaining aspects of realism. There is a warm, sandy island in the middle of an endless ocean covered with pine trees, which are originally native to mountains. The sky is full of rain clouds but it never rains, so the ground is dry and cracked. The buildings are clearly ancient with relatively modern, mechanic additions.

When the development of the game was started, the free version of Unity 4 was used, but recently there was a transition to the brand new and more efficient Unity 5. This change provides a new level of freedom to the artist to further improve Quern's graphics.
