The economy in the Falklands has continued to grow and diversify. Until the 1980's most of the country's income came from sheep but in the last 30 years business has developed and the country has become financially self-sufficient. In 1987, Falklands fishing licenses were offered and now the fishing grounds stretch out 200 nautical miles. It is the most substantial income generator for the Falklands Government, standing at 60 percent of GDP in 2007. Tourism and oil have also become a popular form of income, which has pushed living standards to a level comparable with Northern Europe.
