Browsing the internet on an actual Windows 98 computer in 2018
They said it couldn't be done...or at least that is what most of the forums were saying.
However, this is the situation:
Windows 98 computer:
------
Windows 98 SE
P3 800mhz
600MB RAM
Riva TNT2 32MB
Netgear ethernet card
- RJ45 in the network card
- Other end of RJ45 in 2017 iMac running Windows 10
- Configure Windows 10 to share WiFi network
- Configure Windows 98 to connect using LAN in network setup wizard
- Open Internet Explorer in Windows 98 and click "Detect Network Settings" when it has a DNS error.
- Use K-Meleon to access the internet as it's the most modern browser 98 supports.
The connection speed is adequate for general browsing and downloading small files. It drops out a lot but I might be able to fix that. Either way, it's official, it works and it's really easy to set up if you have the right set up on hand.
