I'm Gaming Jay: Youtube gamer, let's player, retrogaming fan, and determined optimist... Join me in this series while I try out EVERY game in the book 1001 VIDEO GAMES YOU MUST PLAY BEFORE YOU DIE, before I die. The game review for each game will focus on the question of whether you MUST play this game before you die. But to be honest, the game reviews are just for fun, this series is more about the YouTube gamer journey. Let's try out those classic retro games we grew up with, have fond memories of, or heard of but never got a chance to try! And with that said, the game review for today is...

Jay's Thoughts
Now here's a game with a simpler premise: race a dune buggy. OK maybe there's a BIT more to it. You do have to race along a fixed track, collect points and power ups, and try to make it through all the check points before the timer runs out. But it's still a simple game.
In my playthrough I actually did not use a real racing wheel and I kind of didn't realize you could shift your buggy out of first gear (whoops!) which would explain why I could never complete a track. But that said, Buggy Boy had some interesting variety in tracks and some fun jump mechanics. I think it's even possible to flip your buggy!
There's something about racing games in general that's a little bit timeless, and so even though Buggy Boy is dated in terms of graphics and especially in terms of features, the basic act of racing in the game still feels pretty smooth. I think you have to be a racing fan to really enjoy this game these days, and so generally I wouldn't recommend it to most, but hey, it's not a bad game.
➙ Must You Play It?
Buggy Boy is a simple racing game that holds decently, all things considered. I wouldn't say it's a "must play" for most people, but it's a "could play". If you ever get a chance to play the arcade cabinet which featured a widescreen that wraps around your peripheral vision, then give it a shot. Otherwise you could probably skip over it.
