So, I got a 2nd bright red BYTE (ZX Spectrum clone), this time from its home town of Bendery in Moldova.

I already had a USB-to-DIN power cable ready to go from the first one, but had to make up a new video cable ... it uses a 7-pin DIN and I didn't have any earlier.

So I made one up ... 7-pin DIN to GBS8200 RGBS cable, plus 3.5mm mono socket.

Pinout of the 7-pin DIN is:

Pin 1: composite video (??)
Pin 2: synch
Pin 3: blue
Pin 4: green
Pin 5: red
Pin 6: ground
Pin 7: audio

And it seems to work! The synch is all over the place ... but interestingly is stable when the reset switch is on.

So ... finally ... some progress ... okay, progress was simply buying a 2nd ... but now I have something I can compare against.

What has driven me a little insane with this machine is that there's not much to it ... so if something goes wrong it's a pain. I'm sure the Z80 and ROM are okay, that just leaves the DRAM and the ULA ... both a pain.

I'm thinking maybe ULA ... at least now I can compare and maybe get the original working too!
