BZCC Total Command Mod Gameplay - Mission SS01: Red Arrival
It may look odd to show gameplays of a game's mod, but Battlezone was, is and will always be a special game for me, and this mod, which is essentially a reimagination of Battlezone I with the mechanics and gameplay of Battlezone II, is something worth sharing and making videos about.
Moreover, there are two other important reasons why I decided to include this mod in the Battlezone Combat Commander series. The first one is that the missions are played in chronological order, according to the timeline agreed by the Battlezone community, so the missions of all campaigns are scrambled around, turning the mod's difficulty into a rollercoaster, with very hard missions here and piece of cake missions there. This mod is overall harder than Battlezone I, but I completed this mod's version of some of the hardest missions in the original game without sweating too much on my first attempt, so it fluctuates a lot. The second reason is that the "Rise of the Black Dogs" campaign is also included, so it offers an opportunity to showcase that part of the saga's plot.
The first mission is "Red Arrival", the first in the "Stars and Stripes" campaign, where the player is Commander Jason Bates, codenamed "Grizzly 1". This mission is essentially the same as its original version, except that there are also Soviet vehicles ordered to destroy the player's vehicle. This adds difficulty, as these "Assassin" units can be really bothersome. Furthermore, unlike the original version, the Soviets not only send Flankers, but also Stoli Light Tanks to deal with both the Scavengers and Grizzly 1. I played this mission many times, but I can't complete it yet without getting my vehicle destroyed. I always get in the Wolverine Rocket Tank, as it's easier to shoot the targets with those lock-on missiles. The IL Shadower locks on the Flankers quickly, but it takes an eternity to lock on the Stolis, and the Thermal Hornet works pretty much the other way around.
Of course, you can always ask me to pilot another vehicle for this mission, and I will gladly play the mission again in a separate video, but for storytelling reasons, I just played it the way it first worked out for me.
See you in the next video!
