I love the Cthulhu Mythos and if there's one game I keep coming back to, it's Dark Corners of The Earth. It was the first and only game made by UK-based Headfirst Productions and it came out on the original Xbox in 2005 and then later on the PC. ⁠

The plot is a culmination of two of H.P. Lovecraft's classic stories: Shadow Out of Time and The Shadow Over Innsmouth, although it leans heavily on the latter. The story takes place in 1915 with the main character, Detective Jack Walters, encountering an alien race known as the Yithians. ⁠

Despite their grotesque appearance, they mean no harm. Their main goal is to study the history of other alien races by switching bodies with their hosts. When Jack is chosen involuntarily, his mind is transported into the Yithian planet where he is studied thoroughly with a fine tooth comb. Meanwhile, his lifeless body is left on Earth and without a soul inhabiting it, the authorities have him locked up in an insane asylum thinking Jack has gone mad.⁠

When Jack did manage to reunite with his body 6 years later, he has no memory of the abduction nor the time he had spent on another planet. After his release from the asylum, Jack finds himself in another surreal adventure in which you have to see it for yourself. ⁠

Although DCoTE hasn't aged well as its riddled with bugs and glitches, it's still a fun game if you're into horror, mysteries and Cthulhu Mythos. I'd love to see a remastered version of it. @bethesda , if you're reading this, please do it.⁠
