Call of Duty 3 - Mission 2 "The Island" - Hardened difficulty - American campaign
Video walkthrough for Mission 2 "The Island" from Call of Duty 3 (2006).
On 26 July 1944, Pvt. Nichols, Sgt. McCullin, Cpl. Dixon, Pvt. Huxley and Pfc. Guzzo are transferred to the 90th Infantry Division and are sent to the village of Saint-Germain-sur-Sèves. Supported by M5 Stuart 'Rhino' tanks, they must break through the heavily defended hedgerows and clear out the village so that Allied units can continue to advance.
The M5 Stuart was an American light tank first used in 1942 by the British under lend-lease prior to the entry of the U.S. into the war. Afterwards, it was used by U.S. and Allied forces until the end of the war. Stuarts were first used in combat in the North African campaign during Operation Crusader (18 November – 30 December 1941). Stuarts were the first American-crewed tanks in World War II to engage the enemy in tank versus tank combat when used in the Philippines in December 1941 against the Japanese. Outside of the Pacific War, the M5 was used for reconnaissance and screening. Armed with a 37mm gun, the Stuart was deemed to be obsolete towards the end of the war. Thus, Allied light tanks were given cavalry and infantry fire support roles since their light main armament was not competitive against heavier enemy armored fighting vehicles. Though the Stuart was to be completely replaced by the newer M24 Chaffee, the number of M5s produced was so great (over 25,000) that the tank remained in service until the end of the war, and well after.
Gameplay set to Hardened difficulty mode. Footage captured on Xbox 360.
