On 5 August 1944, Pvt. Nichols, Sgt. McCullin, Cpl. Dixon, Pvt. Huxley, Pfc. Guzzo and the 90th Infantry Division are sent to Mayenne and tasked with capturing its bridge. While their armoured convoy acts as a decoy from the opposite side of the bridge, they must clear the town and disarm the explosives rigged to the bridge before the Germans can blow it up.
The 15 cm Nebelwerfer 41 was a German multiple rocket launcher used in the Second World War. Equipped with six launchers, the Nebelwerfer was capable of firing gas, smoke and high-explosive warheads. After firing, a long streak of smoke was visible from a considerable distance, leaving the Nebelwerfer vulnerable to counter-battery fire. It was therefore necessary to relocate the launcher and crew as soon as possible after firing. The launcher mounted on a towed carriage as well as on halftracks (Panzerwerfer 42). Almost five and a half million 15 cm rockets and six thousand launchers were manufactured over the course of the war. Allied troops nicknamed it 'Screaming Mimi' and 'Moaning Minnie' due to its distinctive sound.
