On 7 August 1944, Pte. Cole, Lt. Robichaud, Sgt. Callard, Pte. Baron and the 4th Canadian Armoured Division launch an assault on Tilly-la-Campagne as part of Operation Totalize. Supported by Sherman tanks and "Kangaroo" armoured personnel cariers (APCs), the Canadians must capture a German-held industrial complex and defend it from a large counterattack.
Operation Totalize was an offensive launched by the First Canadian Army during the later stages of Operation Overlord, from 8 to 9 August 1944. The intention was to capture the high ground north of the city of Falaise in order to collapse the German front and cut off the retreat of German forces fighting the Allied armies further west. The battle is considered the inaugural operation of the First Canadian Army, which had been activated on 23 July.
In the early hours of 8 August 1944, the Canadians launched the attack using mechanized infantry. M7 Priests were converted to into "Kangaroo" armoured personnel carriers so that infantry could follow the tanks closely on any terrain. They broke through the German front lines and captured vital positions deep in the German defences. By 21 August, the Falaise Pocket was closed when Canadian and Polish units made contact with US troops from the south, ending Commonwealth participation in the Battle of Normandy.
Gameplay set to Hardened difficulty mode. Footage captured on Xbox 360.
