Call of Duty: WWII is a first-person shooter video game developed by Sledgehammer Games and published by Activision. It is the fourteenth main installment in the Call of Duty series and was released worldwide on November 3, 2017 for Microsoft Windows and the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles.
On June 6, 1944, US Army Private First Class Ronald "Red" Daniels (Brett Zimmermann) of the 1st Infantry Division takes part in the storming of Normandy Beach with his squad, consisting of: Private First Class Robert Zussman (Jonathan Tucker), Private Drew Stiles (Kevin Coubal), Technician Fifth Grade Frank Aiello (Jeff Schine), Technical Sergeant William Pierson (Josh Duhamel) and First Lieutenant Joseph Turner (Jeffrey Pierce). In the midst of the operation, Zussman is stabbed in the stomach, forcing him to stay on the sideline.
Zussman manages to return to duty seven weeks later to partake in Operation Cobra, where the Allied forces push in to reclaim the town of Marigny. After the operation turns out successful, Daniels and the squad are ordered by Colonel Davis (Matt Riedy) to conduct a joint operation with Special Operations Executive officers Major Arthur Crowley (David Alpay) and Vivian (Helen Sadler) in intercepting a German train carrying V2 rockets. Daniels and Zussman derail the train and are escorted back to their squad by French Resistance leader Rousseau (Bella Dayne).
A week later, Rousseau and Crowley infiltrate a German garrison in Paris, disguised as Nazi officers, and retrieve explosives from an insider in order to facilitate the squad's assault on the garrison. Midway, Rousseau encounters and kills SS-und Polizeiführer Heinrich (J. Paul Boehmer), in retaliation for the officer killing her family. With Rousseau's help, Daniels and the squad successfully liberate Paris.
Two months later, the squad moves onto the city of Aachen and takes over a German-occupied hotel. However, they discover civilians inside the hotel, prompting Turner to order for their evacuation, much to Pierson's dismay. When a young girl named Anna (Lilith Max) goes missing, Daniels goes in on his own to find and escort the girl to safety. However, German soldiers manage to open fire on a truck carrying the civilians, killing Anna's older sister. Pierson immediately has the truck sent away, creating a rift with Turner.
At the Battle of Hürtgen Forest, the platoon is ordered to take Hill 493. After defending a vital bridge from the Germans, Turner splits the platoon into two groups; Pierson, Zussman and several other soldiers are tasked with advancing towards the hill, while Turner, Daniels and the rest of the team cover them before meeting up at the assembly point at the base of the hill to capture it together. However, Turner's squad soon receives a transmission revealing that Pierson ordered an attack on the hill against Turner's orders. The platoon then proceeds to destroy an artillery position but while doing so, the Germans suddenly counter attacks with infantry and a Tiger II tank. Daniels is knocked out while trying to disable the tank. Although the tank is shortly destroyed by tank commander Staff Sergeant Augustine Perez (Christian Lanz), Turner is fatally wounded while rescuing Daniels. Turner orders Daniels to abandon him while the former uses his remaining strength to cover the platoon's escape. After Turner’s death, Pierson becomes head of the platoon and makes Daniels his second-in-command by promoting him to Corporal.
At the height of the Battle of the Bulge, the platoon is surrounded by Germans. Daniels meets a technician, Howard (Russell Richardson), who helps the platoon contact air support. After the fight, the platoon captures several German soldiers, and finds out that they are ordered to destroy a bridge at Remagen, which happens to be the last bridge over the Rhine. After destroying the truck carrying the explosives meant to destroy the bridge, Pierson orders the platoon to attack a nearby air base to destroy the remaining explosives. However, the attack fails, resulting in Daniels and Zussman surrounded by enemy troops. Daniels is saved by his squadmates while Zussman is transported away to a German POW camp, Stalag IX-B, though the former ends up being wounded and hospitalized trying to save his friend.
