Calling All Cars! - PlayStation 3 - Single Player Matches in City & Trainyard Stages [UHD 4K60]
Quick showcase of two matches from the game and the "How to Play" section. A comic book art style and sense of humour is the first thing most players will notice with the locked up convict barking calls at the player on the title screen. This is a battle arena car game, that is based around the game of tag or capture the flag as you drive around.
Players compete against one another to bring back the escaped convict to jail, there are a number of locations you can drop off the convict at once you have captured them. The harder the drop point the more points you are awarded. The winner of each event is the player with the most points at the end. So taking the time to jump for the jail or look out for a helicopter pick up is well worth it to score those extra points.
You pick up convict by driving into them, however, you drop the convict if another car rams you or uses a weapon to target you. You also have a timer to deliver them to jail before they escape your vehicle. What this means is the game can be a bit like a bumper car ride when the convict appears as all the players keep crashing into one another until one of the cars gets away.
Each car can quick boost and has an even faster nitro function, you can use to try and out run the other vehicles or chase them down. Picks up grant various power ups that help you steal or chase down other cars. Fire a homing rocket and watch as there car goes flying.
The presentation is first class on the visuals, audio and gameplay. Where Calling All Cars! falls down hugely is the content, sure it's a budget game so you don't expect 50 hours of gameplay. With only one game mode and a handle of unlockable cars, all you get offline is either a tournament or single matches. The online is long since shut down, but it does include 4 player offline co-op play on one console. Quite why the online wasn't peer to peer for this title is an odd one.
It's a nice game that feels rather ruched due to it's lack of content, couple of extra gameplay modes wouldn't have gone a miss or even a short story mode that just had some art cards with a bit of text on before each stage with set score requirements. Just something to keep you playing for a couple of hours as it stands Calling All Cars! is enjoyable in short bursts or with a few friends over for co-op, but the single player is lacking. Still for a budget price it's well worth a look, if you like the genre.
