Cozy Grove - PlayStation 4 - First Hour of Gameplay and Impressions [UHD 4K]
2A gameplay tour of the first hour from Cozy Grove a recently released indie title that clearly takes a leaf from the games design of Nintendo's Animal Crossing. You are a spirit scout sent to a place known as Cozy Grove and it's your job to find and help the spirits of the lost bears stuck in Cozy Grove.
You do this with the help of your flame companion, who restores the grove and island around you as you feed him spirit logs. This will reveal and restore the island along with summoning the bears. Each of the bears has a back story and a roll to help you out on the island. With one being a friendly postmaster, a ship captain who collects items or the guide who can provide clues to items hidden in the game.
Day by day the bears (Charlotte Pine, Jeremy Gruffle, Captain Billweather Snot and more) will give you new quests that will allow you to find spirit logs to feed Flamey. You'll quickly also be introduced to Mr Kit, a fox who sells all the items you need as you enjoy your stay on the cursed... err happy little grove, which you won't be leaving anytime soon. Most of the game seems to revolve around fetch quest with you searching high and low for the items each bear is after. Other activates include fishing, digging, raising pets and feeding imps. You can also just explore the island and pick up pretty much everything you find from branches to sea shells. Many of these are required to build the huge amount of items available in-game.
As with Animal Crossing this is a slow paced game designed to be played over a period of months with the player only able to earn a set number of spirit logs a day. Some items or upgrades also take a day to appear in-game such as shop upgrades or waiting for mail to arrive.
The games has some lovely drawn artwork and the music perfectly fits the slow and relaxing nature of the game. All in all it is a very well put together title. If you want a fast paced, action game, then this is not for you, but if you want a quiet game to play for a few hours a days this is well worth checking out.
