Every week many of you on YouTube ask me, "Can we upload gaming videos as long as we don't monetize them?" The short answer is, "maybe." But that "maybe" has very little to do with whether or not you monetize your video.

If your gaming video meets these requirements - https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/138161?hl=en - there is a good chance you can upload and monetize it without a copyright owner's explicit permission.

Be aware, that even if your video does adhere to the standards in YouTube policy, you still may receive a Content ID Match. In the event that you do, if you've followed YouTube's guidelines in the above policy, you could use the policy to justify your upload should you decide to contest the match.
