A great alternative to the Grand Theft Auto franchise, this Sleeping Dogs Definitive Edition PS4 review shows that Sleeping Dogs packs a heavy martial arts melee punch in a vibrant Hong Kong sandbox.

Combat is more about patience and restraint than all out chaotic war. There are no helicopters or airplains with chain guns to aid y
our travel or attacks. Just you, a small arsenal of blades and small arms and a few nice rides to help you get around town.

Battle works to provide challenge, but it also works to encumber the player's freedom to tackle situations the way they may like.
Mass battles become more about testing how long you can wait to strike or counter and less about putting together solid attack
strategies given its formulaic nature. That said, the combat can be satisfying as you will feel rewarded for the work you put in to
master its idiosyncrasies.

I was surprised by how much I was actually invested in Wei Shen's life by the time I finished the game. The writers did an excellent
job of brining Hong Kong to life with it's locales, NPCs and the narrative surrounding Wei Shen's struggle to find balance.

I loved the juxtaposition of Wei's life as a police officer to his life as a triad. He's conflicted and sees loyalty and betrayal
in both roles. Finding all the jade statues to flesh this out is absolutely worth your time to hear what his martial arts instructor
has to say about his soul hanging in the balance of good and evil.

Building Wei through the leveling system felt deep and satisfying. My only major disapointment stemmed from the fact that
leveling the Triad side of Wei's character was essentially tied to the progression of the story. It made that part of the
character customization feel forced similar to how RPGs like Mass Effect handle leveling and skill progression.

chievement design was decent, but really needed to be tied to normal play. Let's face it, most activities in sandbox games
are designed like chores to allow the player to experience the joy of checking off a to-do list (if you're the type that gets joy
from that type of activity). Activities need to be more organic to the world and gameplay elements. As a result, if you want to
platinum this game, be prepared to spend quite a few hours knocking out chores to get the money you'll need to purchase all the clothes and cars for their respective trophies.
