Can the shorts cover without causing the squeeze?!
The shorts can either push AMC below $2 per share to ensure that it is relegated from the NYSE/Nasdaq, that way shorts will never have to cover, or they can close out of their shorts to be done with this trade.
If the shorts cover, they have to close their legit shorts AND their synthetic shorts, otherwise their synthetic trade will still be open and they'll still be losing money. To fully close out, they have to fully close out.
But if they buy back millions of AMC shares, it will push the price of AMC up, unless retail investors panic and we sell our shares to the hedge funds at their prices.
If they buy back billions of shares at our prices, they'd have to short even more shares than they cover to push the price down, therefore, they cannot close out without causing the squeeze.
