0Castle of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse for the Sega Genesis is an excellent, well-rounded and simple platformer that was released on other platforms as well such as Game Gear, Master System, and Sega Saturn. It differs in a few ways from the 8-bit versions (besides superior audio/video) as it has more options, minor puzzles, more varied stage designs, and you can't choose the order of the levels.
The wicked witch, Mizrabel, is jealous of Minnie's beauty and popularity, so she kidnaps her. Mickey naturally comes to the rescue and chases them to Mizrabel's "Castle of Illusion", where he must go through different realms to retrieve seven gems of the rainbow in order to defeat Mizrabel. The game consists primarily of gaining items that can be thrown at foes, jumping on enemies, and discovering secret items and areas. At the end of levels are bosses who must be defeated with different strategies. This is a video of some of the game. Enjoy.
