Castlevania III NES - "Unkillable" Solo Trevor One Life Run
11To the break of daaaaaaaaaawn, baby! This wasn't easy. In fact, it was downright difficult. Sticking with one character means fewer shortcuts, fewer options and fewer ways of tricking the enemy with the "switch trick." It helps that Trevor is still a Belmont and can still deal serious damage with Triple Shot weapons, however. You benefit by changing up your weaponry a little more often than in the first game, with the Boomerang, Holy Water, Stopwatch and Axe all coming in handy in different areas and against different bosses. The Axe works wonders against Dracula's final form. There are plenty of instant death spots, tough jumps, a couple of REALLY BAD bat placements and cheap bosses, so execution is a must with some solid strategy and outcheaping the cheapness when you can. I lucked out a little and picked up a random Stopwatch in a pretty key area, so thanks should go out to the Castlevania gods on that one.
Although I'm proud of this run, I once again went unnecessarily down to the wire and played Dracula a little too sloppy, taking 2 hits I had no business taking. With the 1st hit being by design via my "attrition method," dealing with the bottom "heads" in the 2nd form first would have prevented the 2nd hit, and slowing it down a little bit would have prevented the 3rd. Still, Castlevania III falls to the might of the vampire hunter in one life!
Played on authentic NES hardware. No save states, turbos, pausing, tool assists or any cheats of any kind were used.
