Playthrough of Konami's 1989 action-platformer for the Game Boy, Castlevania: The Adventure.

Castlevania: The Adventure for the Game Boy is a 1989 action-platformer developed and published by Konami. It holds the distinction of being the first Castlevania title released for a handheld console.

The game takes place a century before the original Castlevania on the NES and follows Christopher Belmont, an ancestor of Simon Belmont, on his quest to defeat Dracula. Though it retains many core elements of the series, such as whip-based combat and sub-weapons, it also introduces some changes due to the Game Boy's technical limitations.

One notable difference is Christopher's movement; he walks at a slower pace compared to previous protagonists. The iconic staircase climbing is also absent. Additionally, the whip upgrade system is altered, with the whip becoming weaker after taking damage.

Despite these changes, "The Adventure" delivers a challenging Castlevania experience with familiar enemies like bats, skeletons, and Medusa heads. The game's atmosphere, while constrained by the Game Boy's monochrome graphics, still evokes the series' gothic horror setting.

Castlevania: The Adventure is a significant title in the series' history, marking its expansion to handheld platforms. Though it has its quirks and differences from the console entries, it remains a noteworthy chapter in the Belmont family's ongoing battle against Dracula.
