Cavalcadence Plays Gato Roboto (Part 2)
Gato Roboto (PC(W)/Steam)
Version: 2019 Aug 19
**CONTENT WARNING** - Photosensitive epilepsy
Gato Roboto occasionally contains some flashing white screens. While perhaps not as excessive as it could be throughout most of the game, do be aware that the flashing is actually notably more severe near most of the Boss fights.
Full game playthrough
Part 1 (Prologue, Landing Site, Nexus)
Part 2 (Aqueducts, Nexus)
Gato Roboto is a game about a cat (Kiki) playing with a cat toy (security mech).
...
So, due to the more limited entertainment options a lot of us (including me!) have been having these past months, I've definitely become more appreciative of the options I do still have... and in an effort to help do my part, I'm currently recording and uploading on an "every third day" sort of pace (which is a slightly faster pace than normal for me!). Once again, I hope it helps, even if just a little! ^.^
Anyway, a full game playthrough for a relatively short game I'm already reasonably familiar with... seemed to be pretty time-efficient. =) And Octodad and Portal were both a lot of fun to record, so...
Gato Roboto! ^_^
I'm pretty sure I've mentioned at some point before that I'm actually a fan of Metroidvanias, even though, uh, very few of the videos on this channel are for Metroidvania games. ^^;
Well, now we have one more Metroidvania game on the channel. =)
I actually picked up Gato Roboto shortly after its original release. I was kind of lured in by the cuteness and humor... but it also seemed like a fun game.
And it was. I ended up playing through multiple times (including a low percent run (no Health/Mech upgrades other than Rockets, Phase, and Decoder) that was an interesting challenge!). =)
So anyway, I had a lot of fun playing through this game again, so... hope you enjoy!
0:00 (18.8% - Health: +3, Cartridges: 2, Upgrades: 1 (Rockets))
0:03 Aqueducts
0:08 Security Sub acquired!
- The Sub has auto-fire (hold the attack button down), but you can get a much faster firing rate if you fire manually (very useful during the Boss Battle)!
- Despite the slower firing rate, one advantage Auto-fire does have is that it keeps the Sub facing the same direction (so you can move to the left while firing to the right, and vice versa).
3:10 "Hey Kiki... Remember those Drains I mentioned? Anyway... That cat-sized treadmill should drain the top level."
3:27 Drain (1)
3:58 Health (4)
6:34 For some reason, these fish can't seem to target you if you're on the ground. =)
7:06 Softlock warning: Currently, exiting here via the upper left in cat form will result in a softlock (you'll have to quit and reload your last save)!
- I actually encountered this during my first playthrough, mainly because I was looking for secrets and doing a lot of exploring. ^^;
- The softlock happens because the water (on the next screen) is directly above the air (on this screen). Kiki gets an upward push whenever she goes from water to air... which is helpful if the air is above the water... but makes it impossible to leave, if the water is above the air. ^^;
8:08 Drain (2)
8:16 "Stay motivated, Kiki! You got this!"
8:57 Cartridge (3) - STARBOARD
10:06 Again, easier with Spin Jump, but possible with Rockets.
10:19 Log (Dr. Heinrich) - Laboratory Log of Dr. Heinrich, day 424.
11:11 Cartridge (4) - PORT
13:55 Boss Fight (2) - Aqueducts
15:31 Drain (3)
16:14 Upgrade (2): Spin Jump Module
18:16 Cartridge (5) - GOOP
18:33 Whoops, forgot about a Healthkit (8 squares to the right of here)... but we'll come back for it after the Heater Core. =)
19:03 Nexus
19:37 Health (5)
20:04 Cartridge (6) - COFFEE STAIN
20:56 You can actually get up here in cat form... but IMO this way is easier. =)
- Jump, then Spin Jump just before the screen transition (then make sure to keep holding Jump and Right until you reach the next platform). Just after the screen transition, fire a Rocket... and if you did all of this correctly, the wall boost from the rocket should get you up to the platform!
- Alternatively, wait until you have the Phase upgrade (from the Heater Core), which can make getting up there easier.
21:04 Cartridge (7) - URINE
21:28 Rebba (frog scientist)
21:34 "Is that a cat in a robot suit?? I guess I'm one to talk..."
21:46 Upgrade (3): Repeater Module (7 Cartridges required for this upgrade)
22:41 "This area is... Umm... Really hot! You're going to want to stay inside the Mech for now."
