Welcome to Captain Chang Plays... Starfleet Command, Hydran Campaign.

The Hydrans are a bit different than the races we've played. In SFB lore, Hydrans were once conquered by the Klingons, but Klingons missed a couple colonies on the edges. The Hydrans rebuilt, and took back their territory by inventing a couple weapons, such as the Gatling Phaser (aka Phaser-G), the Hellbore (a long-range weapon that targets your weakest shield) and fusion beam (a short-range but extremely devastating weapon, with an additional setting: suicide overload, that does 3X the damage, but destroys the weapon). They are also the only race in SFB/SFC to make extensive use of fighters.

Academy 1 and 2: Weapons, and Fighters

We go through the Academy training that teaches you how to use the Hydran ship.

NOTE: Hydran ships can be categorized into 3 types: fusion heavy, hellbore heavy, and mixed. They often build two parallel types of ships, just armed differently: the Lancer, and the Ranger are excellent examples. Only later with a bit of Federation influence and wargaming did they build more "mixed" ships.

Pirates! (In a nebula)

Our first fight is against the ubiquitous Orion pirates... in a nebula. We went slow, charged everything to overload, then when he got close, we went for an alpha strike, and he blew up. Easy-peasy.

Station Duty

Our second fight is against two raiders who thought they can just charge a space station, us, and a bunch of freighters with no consequences. They will learn otherwise.

We charged weapons to overload and plot intercept course, but the enemies are moving fast. I was able to kill one by chasing him from behind and hitting him with an alpha strike, then killed the other one with a little help from the freighters.

Our third fight is also against two raiders. I was able to cripple one with an alpha strike. I flew past him and went after the other guy, which took a bit longer as I had to recharge my weapons, but he blew up. I then went back to shoot the first guy, who managed to limp into range. Another pass, and he's toast as well.

We are promoted one rank.

I went back to base and traded my frigate leader (CRU = Crusader Leader) ship in for a Dragoon-class cruiser. That's quite an upgrade, but I think we are ready for it.
