Madden may be the unchallenged king of football games today, but this wasn’t always the case. Only a decade ago, ESPN and SEGA joined forces to bring down the beast with ESPN NFL 2K5, a game with all Madden’s pomp and pageantry at a much lower price. ESPN NFL 2K5 plays and looks similar to Madden, but everything about its presentation is focused on ESPN. The game uses the same personalities, graphics and even fonts to recreate the look of ESPN circa 2005. ESPN NFL 2K5 offers the same modes you’d expect, but it also includes some new ones—there’s a Crib mode where you can design your own pad, as well as an interesting first-person football mode. ESPN NFL 2K5 features single-player and local multiplayer play on the PlayStation 2.
