The proposed rule, titled “Medicare and Medicaid Programs; Hospital Condition of Participation: Prohibiting Sex‑Trait Modifications for Children,” marks the first step in officially ending these procedures nationally if implemented. A senior administration official told National Review that the rule’s intent is clear: no Medicare or Medicaid funding for any hospital providing sex-trait modification treatments to minors—essentially labeling it as child mutilation.

Even before finalization, many major facilities—such as Yale New Haven Health, Stanford, Phoenix Children’s, Children’s National, UCHealth, Seattle Children’s, and more—have already paused or restricted these services amid fears of financial or legal consequences under the current administration. Meanwhile, agencies like the DOJ, FBI, and FTC are investigating hospitals for possible improper practices or deceptive advertising related to gender treatments for children.

I fully support the HHS and CMS stance, echoing their stance as reflected by RFK Jr. on protecting children. This move underscores our need to safeguard minors from irreversible medical decisions they can’t fully consent to. I also support the hospitals taking action—even before the rule is finalized—for prioritizing children's safety in the face of mounting federal pressure.
