Part 3. What a freaking cute game. I absolutely love the art style, the water color style is gorgeous. Each environment is colorful and lush and brimming with personality. The fairy tale styled story is also very endearing. The characters are fun to use and there are quite a few to experiment with. Heck it's even encouraged to swap members out on the fly, which took me a while to realize. They are each unique and bring something of their own to the table. Expert mode really wants to push you and not just fall into an auto pilot mode. Even regular encounters can be tough. I'm not really into min/maxing and probably don't do a great job planning, but I had a blast taking it easy and finding strats for every encounter. It's super satisfying. The bosses really push you to understand your characters plusses and minuses. Since you can only have 2 members at a time participating your need to be smart about your turns. Mistakes can be made, but you really will be digging yourself out of a deep hole. It's great. I died a lot, but death is not a huge punishment. The game at first seems to be a sort of turn based metroidvania and that's not true. It's more linear and level based than anything, but there are a bunch of collectibles to find. Scattered amongst them are oculi that you can equip or even craft into stronger gems. These can give you some really big boosts and can make or break some fights. Once I made my way into the Plains of Rambert it was very obvious you needed the oculi and they would play a large role in combat. Though I did largely ignore it. You party members skills are vital in combat. There are 3 routes you can go down in every characters skill tree. There is very little chance you will unlock every skill in every route by the end of the game. I made educated guesses on what I thought would be helpful and stuck with my guns. I may have made some choices that made combat harder, but overall I think I made some good choices and com bat rarely if ever felt unfair. It was very satisfying. What wasn't satisfying was the dialogue. At first I thought it was very cute, but it quickly started to bother me, not because of all the rhyming, but because of how poorly written a lot of it was. A lot of the rhymes were written in ways that you had to go very far out of the way to intentionally mispronounce words just to have them rhyme. Hell, some of the sentences were so Yoda-fied that they bordered on gibberish. I really wish as much detail and time was spent on the dialogue as seemingly went into all the other aspects of the game. I just felt sloppy. I think having a map would have gone a long way as well. Maybe something that filled in as you fly along and maybe even marked off collectibles that you acquired. It would have certainly helped in the exploration of finding some of the final chests and power-ups towards the end. Even if it was just a mini-map. I really did enjoy this and hope that at some point we see more of games like this. It's truly a gem. Enjoy my blind playthrough.
