Part 3. Hmmm, this is a game. This is a great looking game for its time. Its got some really cool music. The environments and set pieces are pretty damn awesome. Who doesn't like having epic boss fights on top of a zeppelin? You get a bunch of cool weapons that you can level up and make more powerful. The game is brutal hard and it doesn't care about your feelings. The enemies and bosses look really freaking cool. To really start, the camera is atrocious in this game, especially in smaller arenas and boss fights. You go to make a jump and oops the camera dynamically shifted and you're in the lava. Not fun. Or you go to make an attack and magically the camera shifts and everything is in brand new positions and the direction you were attacking in is not longer where the enemy is and, boom, now you're taking damage. The combat does feel pretty good once you get a decent handle and unlock some cool moves. It can be really satisfying landing big combos. And then you step into a boss arena ready to lay the smack down with your new cool moves and the boss is immune to everything you throw at. What? There is absolutely no sign of when the boss is immune or not, so you just have to keep throwing yourself at the boss until it actually takes damage. All the while hoping it doesn't grab you and take 3/4 of your health away from one attack. It's really bad design. Really bad. And it can lead to a lot of frustration. I am sure if you spend a lot of time with the game you can learn a thing or two on how to better approach some fights, but for a blind playthrough they can be truly awful and largely feel luck based. And holy crap the auto targeting in this game is so wildly infuriating. You are fighting a group of enemies and you are running one down, you happen to knock him down and instead of finishing them off on the ground you turn to attack an enemy across the arena, while the other enemy proceeds to get up and attack you from behind. It's so awful. You can continue to hit and kill downed enemies, but only when the game deems you worthy. If i am holding a specific direction to attack in I want to attack in that direction. I don't want the game magically deciding I can no longer go that way any more. The bad part about the auto targeting is that it can cause you to take unnecessary damage by changing your target even mid-combo. Why? It was certainly helpful at times, but it also was a massive hindrance. With a little extra TLC this game could honestly be amazing, but the blemishes aren't really blemishes and more like huge gaping wounds that keep this game from, in my eyes, being a great game. This game is at best mediocre. You shouldn't need 100s of hours invested in a game to appreciate and understand it. Enjoy my blind playthrough.
