In 2002, Chingy toured as an opening act for Nelly before being signed by Ludacris to his newly formed record label, Disturbing Tha Peace (DTP). The rapper's debut single, "Right Thurr," was released in the summer of 2003, and it quickly gained popularity, putting him on the musical map. The single stayed at number two on the US Billboard Hot 100 for five non-consecutive weeks, and it also reached number one on the Hot Rap Songs chart for four weeks. "Right Thurr" peaked within the top 20 in Australia, Canada, Denmark, Norway, and the United Kingdom, and it was certified gold in Australia, Canada, and New Zealand.

Chingy's debut album, Jackpot, debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200 chart, selling 157,000 copies in its first week. In its fourth week, the album remained at number five on the chart, selling 68,000 copies that week. On February 24, 2004, the album was certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for sales of over two million copies in the United States. As of August 2004, it had sold 2.8 million copies in the US.

Overall, Chingy's debut single and album launched his career and cemented his position as a good-time rapper who specialized in catchy, club-friendly beats and simplistic lyrics delivered in a sing-song, nursery rhyme style. With "Right Thurr," he garnered his first of three top-five hits on the US Billboard Hot 100, establishing himself as a rising star in the music industry.
