The game was a commercial success and sold 1.2 million copies worldwide, making it Capcom's fourth best-selling game on the NES.
The plot and the Gameplay - Chip or Dale (or both at once in a two-player co-op mode), rescuers-chipmunks, begin a rescue operation, the goal of which is to find the lost kitten, and during the search they find themselves involved in an intrigue prepared by the cat Fat Cat. Trying to return the Gadget he had stolen, Chip and Dale at the same time ruin his plans.
The game is made in the genre of platformer with side (at some levels, vertical) scrolling. The main weapons of the chipmunks are portable items distributed across the game levels: boxes, apples, nuts, logs and bombs. Boxes can contain various bonuses, they can also be used as cover (but, unlike nuts, they break at the first successful throw at the enemy). During the game with two, chipmunks can carry each other (usually this opportunity is used so that one player can throw the other into a secret or hard-to-reach place).
Enemies in the game are varied, each level is characterized by its own set of opponents. There are characters from the animated series both in the role of villains (mechanical dogs, aliens that can change their appearance, etc.) and in the role of non-player characters (Rocky helps to overcome the walls at bonus levels, Zipper plays the role of a bodyguard, neutralizing all opponents on screen). Players also need to avoid various obstacles and traps such as electrical discharges, hydraulic presses, pushpins, etc.
At the end of most of the levels, the player will have a fight with an intermediate boss, at the end of the game there will be a fight with Fat Cat himself.
