0Most modern levels nowadays add on some kinda art or effects to stand out. For some, it may be so much that they don't even consider it a modern level anymore. Personally, I try to categorize levels as much as possible, and I think modern fits in many cases. After all, they still have similar color usage, block designs, and more characteristics. However, modern levels started out a lot more simple. This style was in many ways pioneered by Optical in early 2.1. I can't believe it's already been many years since he quit. His levels were very simple and used objects and colors in a special way.
Sorry for the long introduction, but I had a couple of things to say about modern levels. This is a cool and more traditional modern level by obsco1. I'm pretty sure I haven't seen any of his other works, and it's always nice to meet a new creator through a level this good. It doesn't rely on art or effects to be good. The level is simple from start to finish, focusing on its unique color usage and structuring. Like other modern levels, this has the typical flat colors with no blending or glow to be seen. There isn't much detail to anything really. The block designs, decorations, and backgrounds are all simple. However, what makes this look good despite that is the unique composition. Saws, spikes, even the ground, and particularly the structures are all custom-made. They're put together in an interesting way that I haven't really seen before. Even though there's a lot of different shapes mixed and mashed together, I still find it pleasant to look at, which is much thanks to the color combination. It includes some very unique colors as well, such as brown and beige, which is hardly seen in levels. Along with them, there's some greens and blues too.
obsco1 did a good job of giving this level a very unique look. I only wish it was a little longer. Considering how unique the visuals of this level are, I can only imagine how much better this could have been if explored even more. As it stands, though, this is a very solid "traditional" modern level. The gameplay can be a little tricky here and there due to the unique shape of the structures, but it doesn't take long to get down. I think it will get a 6 Star rating.
