Christian Eriksen could've returned to THIS team.
The January transfer window rumbles listlessly on through another week and we’ve got five more scenarios for you to prise some appetite out of you in the never-ending world of football transfers.
Firstly, we need to discuss Arsenal. They’re quite good at the minute aren’t they? But could they have been even better? They were involved in quite a high-profile tug of war with Manchester United over Lisandro Martinez. In the first weeks of the season, with Arsenal flying high and United floundering, it looked as though the Gunners dodged a bullet. Now, however, Martinez is a World Cup winner and has settled into the league nicely.
Arsenal were also among many other clubs in for Raphinha, who had taken no time to outgrow Leeds United. Raphinha had a litany of options, from Arsenal to Chelsea. Instead, he opted for the Nou Camp and Barcelona.
To curtail the week, we’ve got Christian Eriksen on the mind. There hasn’t been a finer feel-good story in football in recent memory than the great Dane. From collapse in a European Championship group game and, according to Eriksen himself, “gone from this world for five minutes”, he has, with the aid of an implantable defibrillator, restarted his career.
In February, Eriksen made his miraculous return to professional football with Brentford on a six-month deal. With his contract up at the beginning of the season, together with proof he could maintain his impeccable standard, his suitors were vast. He turned down offers from former club Tottenham and an extension with Brentford for Manchester United. We’ll go down the two paths Eriksen didn’t take.
