Christie’s Cancels Auction of T-Rex Skeleton #Shorts
The T. rex known as "Shen" was planned for auction on November 30 and was projected to bring in $15 million to $20 million. But after inquiries from the Black Hills Institute of Geological Research fossil firm to Christie's concerning similarities between Shen's bones and those of another well-known T. rex skeleton auctioned by the auction house in 2020, the item was removed.
Shen's owner may have obtained castings of bones from "Stan," another T. rex skeleton, to fill in the gaps in Shen's skeleton.
Casts of bones are used in the majority of display frames to finish the skeleton. There are roughly 380 bones in a T. rex, according to the Field Museum.
About 80 of Shen's bones, according to Christie's, were the originals.
There are currently plans for Shen to be loaned to a museum to be put on public display.
