CiB Game Boy Theater - Ultra Golf and Felix The Cat (Episode 23)
The Original Game Boy is one of the biggest 'game changers' in the history of video games, and essentially ushered in the popularity of handheld games. There are many games that will be classic forever. There are, however, a much, much higher number of simply awful, forgettable, or downright weird games. CiB Game Boy Theater shows you some of the games you might not (and shouldn't be...) familiar with.
Up first, we have Ultra Golf by Konami (anything you ever see by 'Ultra' is actually by Konami due to a strange rule Nintendo had back in the day). Let's see... why, it is -quite- literally Golf for the NES/GB, but with a few minor graphical upgrades. Heck, even the putting greens look exactly the same. It's also very difficult and unforgiving. Oh yeah, this is definitely a NEXT!!
Felix the Cat --- it's a game that Trevor and I had growing up, so it was one that I always remembered as being a very good platformer. I would go as far to say that Felix is one of the most under-appreciated games on the NES. The Game Boy version is a port of the NES version, and it is done very well. We didn't get super far in, but just like The Little Mermaid, it seems to be a very good port (minus the music).
Of course, because the NES game is rare, so too does the GB one. I think this might actually be the most expensive game we've done on Game Boy Theater yet --- thank goodness it's actually a good one! Thanks for watching.
