CiB Let's Try - Dead or Alive (PS1)
Dead or Alive was first released in arcades in 1996, receiving several ports, including a PS1 port that released on March 31, 1998. As with all Dead or Alive games, it was published by Team Ninja (which is also known for the newer Ninja Gaiden games), and published by Tecmo.
This is the one that started it all. Overall, for a 1998 3D fighting game, this is pretty solid. Clearly, the gameplay would get more nuanced as the series would progress -- the grapple system is one of the two things the series is famous for. Speaking of the -other- thing that series is famous for, boy those 'physics' in the characters sure is something.
I find it odd that out of the 10 characters (at least the ones available at first, there may be unlockable characters), only 3 of them are women, when the women are the biggest draw of the series. Of course, all 3 women are put on the front cover of the game.
There's a reason Dead or Alive has been around for more than 25 years, but the start was fairly bare-bones, with very little story, and not much to do except just fighting. Thanks for watching!
