CiB Let's Try - Syd of Valis (Sega Genesis)
Syd of Valis was released in 1992 for the Sega Genesis. It is the Super Deformed (SD) remake of Valis II, though as far as I can tell, it was released after Valis III (1991) was on the Genesis. Syd of Valis was developed by I.S.C. Co., a short-lived Japanese company, and published by Renovation Products Inc, who also published El Viento on Genesis.
Syd of Valis could technically be counted as the 5th, 6th, or 2nd entry into the Valis series, depending on how you count spin-offs or remakes.
This is one of the longest Let's Try videos we ever did. As always with Let's Try videos, this is our first time playing the game. I started off just wanting to show off the game, but after realizing how kind the game was with health replenishment, and how short it is, I tried to finish it.
For my first run, this wasn't too bad. Apparently the boss I gave up on has 3 forms, but an easy way to cheese it, so would I have known, I probably could have finished the game. There was one short stage and the final boss after the point that I gave up.
That being said, Syd of Valis is not very good. The rules it sets out don't make a lot of sense, the controls are floaty at best, and bosses usually become 'who dies first' kind of battles. I will always have a soft spot for early 90s anime-style games that were released in the West (especially on the Genesis), and now knowing that this is a SD remake, I cut it a tiny bit more slack. Still, there's a heck of a lot better games you can get on your Genesis, for a comparable or much cheaper price. Thanks for watching!
