CiB Let's Try - The Punisher (Sega Genesis)
The Punisher was first released as an arcade game in 1993, and was eventually ported to the Sega Genesis on November 15, 1994. It is a Sega Genesis console exclusive, probably because Nintendo did not want anything this edgy on the SNES. The Punisher was developed and published by Capcom.
I picked this game for a Let's Try half because I knew it was rather rare and expensive, and half because I wanted to see how it plays. Is it expensive mostly because it is physically rare, or is some of the cost because it is an excellent beat-em-up?
Well, I wouldn't necessarily say this is an excellent beat-em-up, but it's definitely above average. It's co-op (you'd be surprised how many beat 'em ups aren't), looks and sounds pretty solid for a Sega Genesis game, and the gameplay is above average. The fact that you can use your pistols against enemies holding guns is a very nice touch.
Overall, I wouldn't put The Punisher in the absolute upper echelon of beat-em-ups like Turtles in Time or Streets of Rage 2, but it's in one of the better tiers, for sure. This is one that is definitely not worth the price, unless you're a hardcore collector. Thanks for watching!
