CiB Let's Try - Axelay (SNES)
Axelay was released as a SNES exclusive in September, 1992, and was both developed and published by Konami.
I've heard a lot of great things about this game, and only ever knew it from very brief snippets of gameplay, mostly from the 1st (vertical) level. I have to say, for a relatively early SNES release, this is a fantastic presentation, and Konami was in top form for this game.
Shooters can be a bit too 'glass cannon' and the fact that you have multiple hits before dying, and multiple lives before having to restart the level (we've definitely played more than a few games where one death = restart the level), automatically puts this into the top list of 16 bit shooters.
My one complaint is that the vertical levels, while very cool looking, are a bit funky to play through with the (purposeful) screen warping. I thought that the entire game was vertical, so the fact that it also has horizontal levels is awesome. We can highly recommend this to any fan of shooters, although the cartridge price is a bit steep, so you might want to play this 'any way you can'. Thanks for watching!
